SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois state Rep. Eddie Jacksondefeated former East St. Louis mayor Carl Officer in the race for the Democratic nomination in the 114th House district.

Jackson had about 60 percent of the vote, trailed by Officer with about 33 percent, according to the Associated Press.

Jackson said he plans to reach out to all parts of the district, spanning all of East St. Louis and parts of Centreville and Belleville.

“I’ve got to get out and talk to various parts of the district so that collectively we can represent the entire group,” he said.

Former East St. Louis township supervisor Will McGaughy had 6.5 percent. No Republican filed to run in the primary.
